Fujitsu Stylistic 3400 , Digital Photo Frame

Supplies:

  1. 11” x 17” shadow box from Michaels
  2. Frame matting, used to cover up the open space in the shadow box
  3. Styrofoam packaging leftovers, holds everything secure in the shadow box
  4. Drill & drill bits, drill openings for power, air vents and optional USB cable
  5. (optional) 3.5mm stereo audio extension cable
  6. (optional) USB hub

Steps:
The shadow box will hold the Stylistic 3400 behind a plate of glass. This isn't ideal since the touch screen will not be usable, but keeps the whole setup easy to clean. The little vent holes in the picture didn't generate enough air flow, so I took the whole backing off and run it like that.

  1. Open shadow box and place your frame matting. Making sure it covers all the open space and any parts of the 3400 you don't want visible.

  2. Place the 3400 as centered as possible and trim the styrofoam accordingly and place around the 3400 so that it is wedges the 3400 in a steady location.
  3. One strip of styrofoam was used to press the 3400 against the backing of the shadow box. Try not to not block any vents or connections.

  4. Mark the locations where you'll need to drill to allow access to the power button and vent hols for air circulation. Also cut the backing to allow room for the power cable and audio cable.

  5. After drilling your holes and doing a fit test. Power the whole thing on and check that the it all works like it should.

  6. The optional stereo audio extension cable comes in handy when the speaker wire doesn't reach all the way into the shadow box. It also allows for switching the audio input on your speaker should you have to share the audio between the two devices.

  7. The optional USB hub allows for connecting a mouse, keyboard and USB drives when there are problems connecting to the 3400 over the wireless. Most times I don't have anything hooked up since I can use a pen to turn it on/off.

  8. After using the device at work for a few months, I've found that the little air intakes was not allowing enough air flow. So I just removed the backing to allow air to move more freely. The styrofoam holds the 3400 stable enough that I don't worry about it falling out of the shadow box. The setup could be better, but it gets the job done for now.
